Participatory school design for participatory democracy

Abstract

This paper describes a hands-on workshop in the democratic design of a school, including decisions about curriculum, instruction, assessment, learning spaces, and practices. Participants are guided through a series of Phases of Action, and make all design decisions by Formal Consensus, to collaboratively draft a school plan.
